Can AI agents use x402 autonomously?
Yes - this is one of x402's primary design goals. An agent equipped with a signing key and a USDC balance can detect a 402 response, evaluate whether the price is acceptable, pay, and retry the request without any human involvement. Agent frameworks such as LangChain have community x402 integrations available; x402 can also layer on top of Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP) when an MCP tool gates calls behind payment. Official runtime-level integrations from OpenAI and Anthropic have not been announced.
